Old dreams

My Soul Sister and co-coach Dani Nelson of Life Unconstrained shared some brilliance (as usual) in her weekly newsletter. But this one bit was just too juicy not to share.

I know I’ve written a lot about self-stories, and how they can be limiting (I promise, sometime in the not too distant future, we’ll talk about self stories that are empowering)–

Dani’s newsletter included something that rocked me back on my heels–

I invite you to think about that for a moment.

Are you living/pining/working for a dream that no longer fits who you have become???

Holy crap.

I realized, thinking about this, that so much of my own life (and self) shifts day by day that sometimes a Big Dream, maybe even one that felt absolutely necessary, quietly shifted out from underneath… sometimes due to the great reshuffling of the priority stack, sometimes because needs get met different ways (even without trumpets, angels do sing)… and maybe, just maybe, I need to look at my goals and dreams not for those that have been along with me for the longest journey, but with a real eye and heart toward recognizing those that fit who I am now and who I am becoming.

  1. Or we could modify the old dreams and aspirations to fit who we are today! We change. Our relationships change and perhaps reframing old dreams into new working progress based on our current needs and life situations is necessary. Take for example my Large wonderful art studio– truth be told ita a place I havent created in for about four years. After having gone back to work full time after my dovorce (hint these are the changes) and buying a house, I just donr get there to work anymore. Im thinking that I would like to move my creative home to myr eal home. Let me say however, that the unhatched dreams can sometimes be heavy as dinosaur eggs!

    1. Oh Nancy, you are so right! It is totally about evolution, not just jettisoning the old stuff, but transforming it when it makes sense to…. I love the idea of bringing your creative home Home.
