set in stone

what do you write? what could possibly sum up an existence? hint at the immense, complex, wondrous, wholeness of a person?

what words can capture any of us? our struggles and triumphs, the accumulation of ordinary miracles and magic that come from opening doors and offering smiles, the laughter that falls like rain.

we spend a lifetime labeling and labeling and labeling ourselves

we label each other

we identify by role, and task, by children, by income, by politics

imagine we had no language, imagine that all we could do is experience each other, fully, wholly, without labels

and then, upon the gift of language asked- who were they?

the answer might be a magnificent being of radiance and light

the answer might be love seeking love, like mercury

the answer might be “all of us”
