new moon

the new moon now signals something to me, a time to breathe in and begin.

it is a time of planting.

I have a moon phase app on my phone (which is a sentence that would have made no sense to anyone not too many years ago) and yesterday I watched the waning in a weirdly abstracted and yet, somehow newly accessible way.

percent visible.

at any given time the whole moon is there.

the whole wonderful pockmarked roundness. the rock and dust. the history of collision and consolidation. footprints and tire tracks. flags. dark sides.

at any given time, there is a certain “percent visible” that is exactly that– visible, not present.

it is a good reminder to me– just because I do not see it, or all of it (whateveritis) right now, does not mean it is not there.
