oatmeal half eaten
hair half dry
the bag half packed
the day half planned
with all of this half-ing, it’s hard not to feel half assed.
instead, the truth of it: (some) things are simply halfway to where they need to be.
some of them can stay half done forever — because really, what’s the impact?
others need attention, need completion, need closure, need a shift from this to that because there are consequences best avoided.
the trick, I guess, is not getting all symbolic, treating the halfways like evidence of pathology or an overwhelming state of half-ness,
like evidence of anything other than what they are
a bowl of oatmeal, a damp towel, a bag half-full
